Looks fabulous so far.

This project has not begun on Kickstarter at the time of this article. Hopefully soon? I feel this project has a lot of promise from everything I have read so far. The demo booklet is available on DriveThruRPG for everyone to look at. It’s Pay What You Want if you would like to tip the team at RPCraft Publishing, I’m sure they would appreciate it.

BoC: Brutal Races is a deep dive into Orcs, Goblins, and Hobgoblins. The book is also going to look at many of the mixed ancestries such as Elf/Orc, Dwarf/Orc, Gnome/Orc, and Goliath/Orc just to name a sample. These guys are all-in on the Orcs. I’m fascinated. It’s proof positive that not all Orc variants are truly brutal.

I’ve been a fan of Orcs (or Orks in the GW Universe) for a very long time. This book covers bases that I have rarely seen in other books on the topic. So far, I’m very gung-ho to see this project take off and really get some traction on Kickstarter. Orc-a-mania runnin wild!

I would also like to mention the art on this project looks amazing so far. The layout and design look very professional. RPCraft has done a great job of making it look and feel as if this book was an official 5E product from WotC themselves.

BoC: Brutal Races digs deeper than just ancestries behind the character. It contains the powerful Warchief Class. It’s a powerful commander style class that hits like a truck and commands others in battle. The Paramount subclass reminds me a lot of the old Warcraft Orc Necromancers that could raise their own small army from the bones of their own defeated troops. It’s a nice tribute.

There are also so many other cool things to unleash from this book. There is a new Warlock patron, deities, spells, and magic items among other tidbits. Uncanny Grub, the Blood Hunt, and new rules for Monster NPC interactions round out the surprises thus far. It shows the creators of this supplement are very passionate about Orcs, Goblins, and Hobgoblins. I give it high marks for creativity.

One word of caution: As with any “homebrew” or Third Party Publisher supplements comes a concern about game balance. Some things in this book such as the Hobni and the Warchief Paramount might be a bit powerful for some Dungeon Masters. I wouldn’t say they are grossly unbalanced, just not for everyone in every campaign. It’s always up to the individual DM to allow or disallow new elements into their campaign.

Overall, I say go for it. The fine folks at RPCraft have mixed elements from older editions of D&D into a very smooth 5E book that uplifts and embraces all things Orc-y. I think it would be a fine addition to any 5E collection. BoC: Brutal Races would make a great campaign unto itself.

Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate you as always. If Orcs, Goblins, and Hobgoblins are your thing, please consider backing this book on Kickstarter at the link above.
